The Flying SCOT ("we", "us") is a food truck business operating in Canterbury, New Zealand. We are committed to handling your personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. This policy explains what we collect through this website, why, and your rights.
1. What we collect
We only collect personal information you choose to give us through this website:
Contact form: your name, email address, and the message you send us.
Newsletter signup: your email address. If you tick the newsletter option on the contact form, we also record your name alongside your subscription.
We do not collect payment details through this website, and we do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
2. How we use your information
Enquiries: we use your details solely to respond to your message — for example, about catering or private events. We also send you an automatic email confirming we received your enquiry.
Newsletter: if you subscribe (or tick the newsletter option), we use your email address to send you occasional updates about our locations, menu specials, and events. We only send marketing email to people who have opted in, and every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.
We never sell, rent, or share your details with third parties for their marketing.
3. Where your information is stored
Enquiry messages are delivered directly to our business mailbox and are not kept in a separate customer database.
Newsletter subscriptions are stored securely with Resend, the email service provider we use to deliver our emails and manage our subscriber list. Resend stores this information on secure servers which may be located outside New Zealand; we use it only under safeguards consistent with the Privacy Act, and only for the purposes described in this policy. 4. How long we keep it
Enquiry emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request and our ordinary business records. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them, after which they are deleted from our subscriber list.
5. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct or delete it. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by contacting us directly.
For any privacy request, contact Leisa or Hannah Sinclair at admin@theflyingscot.co.nz. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can, and within the timeframes set by the Privacy Act.
6. Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and its "last updated" date.
